Japan, a fascinating country!
It is both a place of knowledge and a land of the unknown.
His social behavior could resemble ours but in contact with his social codes, the change of scenery is as surprising as it is strange. The loss of our bearings acts gently like an aquaplaning of the mind.
In this cottony feeling elsewhere, we stand with wondering curiosity on this preliminary threshold where a complex and dense world is playing out before our distraught eyes.
I have been to Japan several times and, each time, it is this caressing feeling that comes back to envelop me.
When I photograph Japan, it’s always with the desire to translate this unspeakable feeling. I don’t want to make images, I want to express a “thought”, I want to write an “emotion”, I would like to bring the spectator to the heart of this energy which crosses me when I feel this powerful flow.
For my Urban Tōkyō 2o19 series, the energy felt in this effervescent district of Tōkyō is a material that I tried to capture to bring a poetic reading.
The light that has engraved itself on my film shows only fusion and confusion. A breath. The life.
