Biography of \u00c9ric Petr | Visual Artist and Fine Art Photographer Inspired by Japan<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

I am \u00c9ric Petr<\/strong>, a visual artist and fine art photographer based in Marseille<\/strong>, whose work explores the boundaries between Japanese culture<\/strong>, light<\/strong> (as matter and energy), and writing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My artistic journey has been shaped by travel, encounters, and a deep fascination with places imbued with history and their resonance.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

From an early age, my photographic work of the 1980s<\/strong>, through variations of light and matter, reflected on our relationship with the universe. My aesthetic choices initially leaned toward minimalist compositions and monochrome prints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the advent of digital technology in the early 1990s<\/strong> marked a period of questioning and reflection for me. A break from photography became inevitable, allowing me the time to reconsider my relationship with the image and the photographic device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2003,<\/strong> the desire to create photographs again, in order to capture the timeless, suddenly asserted itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

Since 2013<\/strong>, I have been expressing myself as a visual artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2015<\/strong> onward, my work began to receive recognition through exhibitions and the publication of an artist\u2019s book with Corridor \u00c9l\u00e9phant editions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today<\/strong>, I continue this reflection on light through a very contemporary approach to image-making.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The Atelier de La Grande Vitrine in Arles is a place for exchange and awareness of artistic creation. It offers a multidisciplinary programme \u2014 exhibitions, performances, workshops, encounters \u2014 developed with artists and local partners. Open to discovery and contemporary practices, it unfolds in resonance with the cultural events of Arles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
